“Cómo un pájaro en el cable, como un borracho en la noche”.- Pronunciando tan suave como el ritmo de su corazón le permitía, Sylvie Simmons decoró el final de la primera sesión de grabación Algo en Algo, en los estudios de Algorecords (Providencia, Chile). Un registro puro y sin pretensiones, en el que además participaron Diego Alorda y Matías Cena en los arreglos, más Alejandro Gómez “Perrosky” y Felipe Ruz, a cargo del estudio.

Sylvie tiene canciones como historias, compone y escribe mientras viaja entre Oslo y Bogotá, San Francisco y Aarhus. Cuenta su aventura como testigo único, y medita sobre la simpleza de estar donde quería estar. Su prosa describe la frialdad de la desilusión y la calidez de un romance recordado, con la misma fragilidad con que golpea las cuerdas de su ukelele. Sylvie toma aire, sonríe, espera y mira a los ojos de sus músicos como si escondiera por casualidad la piedra filosofal de la vida tranquila. Cuando comienzan, su interpretación quebradiza arrastra la dinámica de la sesión a la intimidad. “My lips still taste of you”, “Midnight Cowboy” y “Hard Act To Follow”, títulos de su disco debut, son los guardianes de ese secreto que Sylvie murmura suavemente.

Además de la citada “Bird On A Wire”, la lista incluye las canciones “Suzzanne” y “Hey That’s No Way To Say Goodbye” de Leonard Cohen. Antiguas melodías que Sylvie Simmons familiarizó a través de su canto. Siente como Cohen, se alimenta de la misma mesa de hotel que su amigo y le propone un brindis. Esta vez, sin Cohen pero en Santiago de Chile, después de una lluvia tempestuosa, y con Perrosky encendiendo una estufa a parafina en la sala del estudio, con cáscara de naranja para el olor.



“Like a bird on the wire, like a drunk in a midnight choir”, Sylvie Simmons pronounced these lines as soft as her heartbeat allowed her to do it and that’s how she decorated the first recording session at Algorecords studios (Providencia Santiago). It was a pure and unpretentious recording completed by Chilean musicians Diego Alorda and Matías Cena in arrangements, while Alejandro “Perrosky” Gómez were in charge of the studio labors.

Sylvie’s got songs as she has stories; she composes and writes them during her trips to Oslo, Bogotá or San Francisco and Aarhus. She tells her adventures as a unique witness, and also meditates about the simplicity where she wants to be. Her prose can describe the disillusionment coldness, and the remembered warm romance with the same fragility she strums her ukulele.
Sylvie breaths in, smiles, waits, and looks to her musicians eyes just as she as if by chance could hide the quiet life philosophal stone. As they start, her breakable performance leads the session dynamic towards intimacy. “My lips still taste of you”, “Midnight Cowboy” and “Hard Act To Follow” are titles from her debut album and the secret guardians that Sylvie softly murmurs

In addition to “Bird On A Wire”, the tracklists includes Leonard Cohen’s songs such as “Suzzanne” and “Hey That’s No Way To Say Goodbye” which are old melodies that Simmons familiarize through her singing. She feels like Cohen, she feeds from the same hotel table as her friend, and propose him a toast. This time Cohen is not there with her. She is now in Santiago, Chile, just after a tempestuous rain, and Perrosky is lighting a paraffin stove, adding some orange peel to the smell
